Once again, the Western Fest Stampede Rodeo has a jammed packed line-up of great entertainment planned for the whole family.

The Coppertown Clown

Bert Davis Coppertown Clown

Take a group of trained animals, a wacky sense of humor and a clown barrel...stir in a large rodeo crowd...and what do you get? Definitely the perfect ingredients for a zany performance by Bert Davis, better known as the Coppertown Clown.

His stage is a rodeo arena and his cast of players bark and bray. Davis has been a rodeo entertainer most of his life -- starting at age 16, in 1974 as the youngest bullfighter in the nation -- his quick wit, award winning comedy routines and ability to interact with a crowd offers up the promise of tear rolling laughter for his audiences.

The list of awards and honors bestowed upon Davis is as long as the 60,000 miles he travels in a year. In 2003, he became the first comedy act to ever perform during a National Finals Rodeo performance, and in 2004, for the second consecutive year, he was nominated for the PRCA Comedy Act of the Year award. In 2006, Bert and one of his dogs, Kelsey, were again selected as the featured performers at the National Finals Rodeo. Kelsey was the only dog to perform three times at the NFR. Sadly, in 2007 Kelsey lost her life to cancer.

Bert has worked seven Circuit Finals in the last eight years as the clown, barrelman, and specialty act:   Sierra, Columbia River, Prairie, Mountain States, Turquoise, California and Badlands. Also in the last several years, Bert was named as a Coors Man in the Can Finalist.

While Davis is undoubtedly a courageous and hilarious performer, it is his numerous dogs, mini-mule and turtles that endear him to the spectators. These animal sidekicks and their high energy antics make the Coppertown Clown one of the best animal specialty acts in the industry.

Having performed in 41 States, four Provinces of Canada as well as Australia, Davis has gained international notoriety. His unique grease paint and baggy pants appearance placed him in the spotlight for a series of greeting cards and national magazine ads in the early 90's, and his great dogs earned a spot on National Geographic's "Dogs with Jobs" documentary in 2002.

Not much can throw a funnyman who has faced rampageous bulls on a daily basis for the past 33 years. What keeps this extremely courageous and hilariously talented performer going these thousands of miles, year in and year out? Well, it comes from the heart; Garth Brooks sings, "It's the roar of the Sunday crowd" in Rodeo. But for Bert Davis, the Coppertown Clown, it is the roar of any crowd.

The Coppertown Clown's antics hold something for everyone. He clowns for kids 8 to 80 with clean humor and comedy that is as much funny as it is uplifting. He is a life cheerleader in rodeo clown's clothing.
